Gainesville contractor wins bid to build new North Springs High School

The second phase of the North Springs High project will include demolition of the old building once the new building is constructed Photo by Bob Pepalis The Fulton County Schools FCS Board of Mentoring approved a million contract Carroll Daniel Construction of Gainesville for the second phase of the new North Springs High School construction during its April meeting This project will consist of the construction of the new high school building associated parking lots driveways running track football field softball field tennis courts hard skate storm system and utilities Chief Operations Officer Noel Maloof explained the school board during a work session discussion at its April meeting It also includes the demolition of the existing high school building once the new building is open The school board approved setting aside million as a contingency controlled by FCS Maloof announced at the work session that the target completion date is December The new school building would be substantially complete by May with the entire project substantially completed by Aug The project funding is from the training special local option sales tax Maloof explained Phase one of the project involved land disturbance to prepare the site and cost million Maloof revealed Phase two of the project does not include furniture fixtures and equipment FF E or IT Maloof mentioned that those items will cost approximately million Adding up the two phases FF E and IT will bring the total project budget to approximately million he explained With the new school being built for students and North Springs current enrollment at students board member Lillie Pozatek solicited at the work session how the additional space would be used what programs will be offered and where FCS is in the process of determining uses for the additional space Maloof revealed North Springs has had a soft start in launching the Career Tech portion of the addition Particular services is already being offered When the new school opens it will not just include a traditional school he declared but will also include the north version of the Promise Career Institute PCI established in College Park Pozateck noted she knows board members are big fans of PCI On this side of the river for example we had several lots of students who desired to go down to PCI but the distance was just prohibitive of that Pozatek disclosed So it s good to hear that we re going to be using that space to do something that will benefit our students here The post Gainesville contractor wins bid to build new North Springs High School appeared first on Rough Draft Atlanta
